Recommendation about Sara Konforty's artwork for the Synagogues 22.11.2009
"And I have filled him… in wisdom and in understanding and in knowledge… to devise skilful works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass"
To Mrs. Sara Konforty,
Founder and manager of the Sara Konforty studio
I would like to convey my great admiration and joy at seeing your special and magnificent creations that uplift, beautify and enrich the house of Lord, beginning with the wonderful and unique design of the Ark of the Torah (Aron Kodesh), the cantor's dais (Teivat Chazzan) and the stained glass windows, which obviously required long hours of thought and meticulous attention to detail, in order to achieve the heartwarming and soul expanding end product.
The memorial plaques, the cover of the Torah scroll (Parochet) and artistic walls that you created, alongside the ceramic tiles and special signs, are a refreshing and captivating sight, true works of art, that are worthy of glorifying and praising any and all institutions that hold themselves in high esteem.
Anyone who visits your gallery gazes with yearning eyes and a full heart at the pure beauty and hard work, and at the thought that goes into every possible detail.
After seeing these creations, what more can I say? It instills joy to the heart to see such marvelous works of art, to discover that there are such amazing people, and to take pleasure in the fact that there are such talented people.
I wish you great success in any path you choose to take, great riches, health, spirituality and expansion of the mind, amen.
I am confident that anyone who fills his/her home with your creations, in all of which you have infused your heart and soul, will know joy and happiness.
God willing, when the Third Temple is soon built, I am certain that your admirable and alluring creations will adorn the place that we have dreamed of and longed for, for so many years. Amen.
With admiration and respect,
Rabbi Josef Weismann

A recommendation, regarding the artistic work of the artist Sara Konfortyfromsynagogueof Moroccan Jews
28.3.2010
A recommendation from a synagogue of Moroccan Jews, from the Schemesh Oumagen synagogue, in Jerusalem, regarding the artistic work of the artist Sara Konforty: the design and creation of an Ark of the Torah (Aron HaKodesh), a stained glass window, design of the synagogue wall, a cover for the Ark (Parochet) of the synagogue and design of a Moroccan style cantor's dais (Teivat Chazzan).
I whole heartedly recommend Sara Konforty's work.
Her main attributes are:
Dedication, responsibility, attention to details, a rare talent that enables her to match different motifs to the general style and her insistence to achieve a perfect product, both in terms of design and in the technical sense.
Regards,
Patrick Bitton

Vitrage, Stained Glass, Designed special Windows, painted glass
“Always without formulating the concept, I had based my sense of being in the world partly on an unreasoned conviction that certain areas of the earth’s surface contained more magic than others”.- Paul Bowles. My work- my designing of the interiors of the Moroccan synagogue – the Aron Hakodesh, the rose window-rosette, the other special windows of the synagogue - all those creations were born out of an instinctive love and admiration to the cultural and traditional Jewish Moroccan. The notion of “Orientalism”, of Islamic culture filtered through the perceptions of the west had captivated me many years ago and influenced my art during all the last 20 years. In my work I tried to combine past and present and to express the mystical, the sense and a little bite of the soul of Morocco.
I was influenced from the Islamic Architecture in Morocco, from the walls covered with mosaic tiles (zelliges), and the motifs which are always geometrical and abstract. Since it is not allowed to paint in the synagogue motifs of figures or animals - it was very convenient to express my art and to be connected with the artistic traditional Moroccan.
During the last weeks of designing, painting and working for the new synagogue “Schemesh Oumagen” – mainly for the Jewish Morocco, I spend many nights of learning about the tradition, ways and environments of Morocco, Synagogues, colors, designing, while creating the vitrages for the synagogue. Jews were clearly part of the Roman cities that developed in the first century. Many of them moved into Morocco by migrating westward along the Mediterranean coast from the large Jewish center in Carthage (Tunisia). Traces of Jewish life can be found in Volubilis, the large excavated city near Meknes. Volubilis was the most Western settlement of the Roman Empire. The Jews of Morocco tend to respect tradition but are not religiously observant. The community life is focused around the synagogues and social clubs. The Jews speak with nostalgia and longing of the wondrous past of the community, and continue to observe the rituals of saint worship.
